Friday Fun with Nature

Friday Fun with Nature will collect heartwarming animal and other nature stories from the worldwide web. Enjoy them with your students on a Friday afternoon. Or sneak a peek after a hard day or when you need a little boost.

Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way.
— John Muir

Dancing Bear

Check out The Northern Divide Grizzly Bear Project for more information.

For fun, ask your class to come up with as many (crazy or entirely feasible) reasons as possible for the bear to be rubbing its back on a tree. Some say it's not because their backs are itchy, but you couldn't convince me of that!

See this report, Getting to the Bottom of Why Bears Rub Trees, for a list of possible reasons.

You also might want to discuss the warning "Never approach wildlife!" that appears at the end of the film.
